On the 8th November every year, the world celebrates World Town Planning Day. This day is recognised and celebrated to advance public and professional interest in Town Planning and to acknowledge the role of town planning in creating liveable urban communities.
The Matsapha Town Council has a Town Planning Unit which reviews development applications, processes special consent, rezoning and advertising applications. The main aim of this unit is to ensure that approved developments or applications are aligned with the national and local land use legislation, policies and regulations.
One of the main local pieces of legislation that the unit utilizes is the Matsapha Town Planning Scheme, 2019 which was established under the Town Planning Act 1961. The Matsapha Town Planning Scheme, 2019 ensures there is orderly and sustainable use of land in Matsapha by regulating the use and development of land. The Scheme was developed by assessing a number of socio-economic and environmental characteristics of the Town in order to meet the current and future needs of the Town.
The Town Planning Unit always has its doors open to assist residents, business owners, investors and visitors of Matsapha. For more information or assistance by the Town Planning Unit, you can contact 2518 6637 or alternatively send an email to maphalalath@matsapha.co.sz or malamalelam@matsapha.co.sz.
