Matsapha – On the 23rd of June 2022, Council held a Health-Care Waste Generators Workshop that aimed at improving compliance by stakeholders about special waste management guided by the waste regulation of 2000. As an industrial town, Matsapha has several companies and health care facilities that produce special waste, and stringent rules and regulations need to be followed to ensure that there is safe disposal of such waste in the town. The Environmental Health Officer of Council, Melusi Dlamini encouraged the participants of the workshop to ensure that there is compliance in the management and disposal of healthcare waste as it has negative environmental impacts which may include the release of pathogens and toxic pollutants into the environment.
