On the 12th of February 2022, Council in collaboration with the Tubungu Runner’s Club successfully held the Children’s Fun Run, an initiative that aims at promoting a healthy lifestyle for young children in the town. This event was held at Tubungu Township where children between the ages of 5 – 14 tested their strength and agility in a 1 – 5 kilometers run.

Speaking during the event, the Environmental Health & Community Services Manager of Council Mancoba Zwane said that Council was impressed by the level of participation displayed by the residents of Matsapha in this initiative. “We are happy to see the community of Matsapha united and working together to host such an exciting initiative. He further stated that Council was happy to see the level of neighborhood care that was portrayed by the residents. “Council encourages neighbors to continue working together to resolve issues and strengthen their communities’’, he said.

The Tubungu Runner’s Club was formally established in 2014, by the residents of Tubungu Township and has grown into a formidable running club that has members from all the corners of the town. They have participated in several marathons, including two international marathons which they attend every year. The Chairman of the Tubungu Runner’s Club Simo Shongwe said that they were excited to have the support of Council and they are always willing to work together with Council to further develop the town of Matsapha in sporting and health initiatives.

The event was concluded with a wonderful aerobics session which saw parents partaking alongside their children.
