“Know Your HIV Status” was echoed globally, nationally, regionally and even down to the town of Matsapha this year, as the host of the Manzini regional World Aids campaign. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, NERCHA and other HIV stakeholders, AHF and Matsapha hosted for the first time the regional event, at the Royal Police Academy Sports Ground, on the 23rd of November 2018.
The focus of this year’s campaign took an approach of encouraging all to test and know their HIV status and to continue living their lives positively, as highlighted by the Tim Rwabuhemba, UNAIDS Country Director. He added that statics show that only 8 out of 10 people know their HIV status, most of which are women. Therefore, urged all to test as it is better to know your HIV stats as it allows you to better plan your life and continue living a healthy life. Aware of the public health threat that the virus brings if not prevented or treated, it could affect the nation immensely. Eliminating the threat Matsapha Town Council and its stakeholder AHF, provide free health services to all, through a mobile clinic and a clinic located in Matsapha. The Minister of Health, Lizy Nkosi, during her remarks also encouraged the need to test for HIV and echoed the full use of the available Health facilities that offer free health services.
